College Internship Programs
The Sunscreen Film Festival has an ongoing internship program with the University of South Florida’s Humanities Department. Over the years students from USF have gained class credit and valuable experience interning with Sunscreen. Sunscreen also works with the University of Tampa, Eckerd College in St. Petersburg and the Art Institute of Tampa. Students from these schools should contact their department head for more information about interning with Sunscreen.

Careers in the film and entertainment business are some of the most sought after in the world. Events like the Cannes Film Festival and the accompanying Marche du Film tradeshow attract high level industry all in one place for two weeks each May.
2018 will be the 6th year Sunscreen has taken college students to Cannes. If you’re passionate about a career in the entertainment industry or just love film, this Educational Program is an amazing opportunity for you! You will gain a behind the scenes experience like no other. You will interact with professionals from all across the entertainment industry in an exclusive setting. You will meet more people in the business in two weeks than you can in an entire year. You‘ll have the opportunity to really see how the industry works and learn from industry pros. You’ll have the opportunity to see films before anyone else in the world. Not only will you have a great educational experience but you’ll get to be a part of some of the glitz and glamour too. This program is designed and run by experienced educators who have been teaching at the university level for many years.
Complete the application below for an exclusive educational program at the Cannes Film Festival. Applications are considered from October to February. Space is limited and acceptance will be on a first come first served basis. The Education Director and the education committee will select candidates for phone interviews prior to the final selection process.

Students that are selected for the program will have seven (7) calendar days to accept. If acceptance is not made within seven (7) calendar days that slot may be given to someone else as space is limited.
If accepted full payment of $3295 is due within one week of acceptance.
Program Fee of $3295 includes:
- 15 nights shared lodging with up to three other student interns within walking distance of the Palais des Festivals (the main venue for the Cannes film festival and the Marche du Film).
- Exclusive accreditation to the Cannes International Film Festival and Marche du Film allowing privileged access to films and events.
- Car service airport pick-up.
- Car service airport drop-off.
- Exclusive private event party with film industry attendees.
- Daily workshops and functions with attending film organizations (sales and distribution, production companies, producers, film commissions, film festivals and more).
- Personal guidance, introductions to industry professionals and help with questions and getting around every day from the Education Director, Festival Director and staff (all very experienced with Cannes).
- Tailored educational curriculum that includes; film screenings, workshops, panels, networking events, meetings with film industry professionals, receptions and parties.
- Special Screening of student interns’ films during the festival. Inclusion of these films in the Cannes Short Film Corner.
Airfare and Travel to and from Nice, France:
If accepted students are responsible for their own travel arrangements to and from Nice, France.

Is there a curriculum or schedule of events?
Yes, it will be a flexible schedule and the curriculum will include; film screenings, workshops, panels, networking events, meetings with film industry professionals, receptions and parties.
If I am accepted, what are the travel dates?
The program begins on May 7th and ends on May 21st. There will be two (2) days of orientation and acclimation before the festival begins on the 9th. Plan to arrive in Nice, France (NCE) on May 7th as early as possible and depart on May 21st, as early as possible. To arrive in Nice on May 7th most flights will need to depart the United States on May 6th.
Where will my lodging be?
Apartments will be within a 10-15 minute walking distance of the Palais des Festivals (the main venue for all activities). Apartments are booked through the official apartment company of the Festival des Cannes and the Marche du Film.
Can I get school credit for the program?
That depends on your individual school. Past students have received internship credit for the program. Be sure to speak to your school about this. The Sunscreen Film Festival has partnered with the University of South Florida’s Humanities Department for many years to provide credit via their internship program.
I can’t stay for the whole program. May I come late or leave early?
It is recommended to stay for the entire program. This can be addressed on a case by case basis.
Can I get a refund of the program fee if something changes and I cannot attend?
Yes, but it will be only be a partial refund. If apartments have been booked or accreditation reserved those costs cannot be refunded. Festival accreditation is nontransferable and since space is limited dropping out has repercussions on the rest of the participants. We will do our best to accommodate any changes but once paid some costs are not refundable.
I’m an international student. May I apply?
Yes you can! For international applicants you will need to be able to speak English.
I’ve already graduated from college can I still apply?
Yes; those who have graduated within three years are welcome to apply.
Do I need to speak French to apply?
No, most everyone speaks English. Programs and information are printed in French and English. The French do appreciate when you make the effort to speak their language.
Do I need a current passport?
You will need a current passport to fly or travel in from another country. Don’t delay; it can take up to six weeks to obtain one. Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your intended return date.
I am not a film student. May I apply?
Yes, any majors can apply. The film business is made up of a wide variety of professions including marketing, advertising, finance, law, journalism, graphic design and more.
