THE 14TH ANNUAL SUNSCREEN FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES ITS 2019 LINEUP,

INCLUDING FILMS WITH JIM GAFFIGAN, ANNA PAQUIN AND MORE

 

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – (FEBRUARY 7, 2019) – The 14th Annual Sunscreen Film Festival Presented by the St. Petersburg Clearwater Film Commission announced its official selections for the 2019 event featuring films with Jim Gaffigan, Ed Asner, Anna Paquin, Mellissa Leo, Cynthia Nixon, and more.

The 14th Annual Festival takes place April 25-28th at the AMC Sundial Theaters and other venues in downtown St. Petersburg.

Some highlights include the Martin Scorsese produced film Tomorrow, about a war veteran struggling to find a reason to live until he is befriended by a man who lives every day as though it’s his last.  Tomorrow was the Best Feature Film Winner at the Savannah Film Festival.

The Parting Glass, Directed by Stephen Moyer of True Blood fame is an intimate family drama with Cynthia Nixon, Anna Paquin, Ed Asner, Denis O’hare and Melissa Leo.

The sure to be a crowd pleaser Jim Gaffigan comedy, You Can Choose Your Family,  is about how a normal father’s family life is turned upside down when his son discovers he has another family.

“We are thrilled to present the most diverse and engaging program the Sunscreen Film Festival has ever seen.  The diverse themes at the fest are presented by filmmakers from around the world. This year also sees Sunscreen show the most films ever directed by women!  Whether your taste is comedy, documentaries, thrillers, animation or just terrifically told dramas April 25th to the 28th are days you will want to save for the movies” said Festival Director Chris Eaton.

The 2019 Festival will feature 128 films across a broad spectrum of genres, themes and topics.  Of the 128 films there are 106 shorts, 14 narrative feature films, and 5 documentaries.  Films screening are from the United States, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, France, Germany, Guatemala, Italy, Kenya, Latvia, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Films at this year’s festival cover a variety of themes that include; MeToo; transgender; aging; autism; Alzheimer’s; immigration; and sex trafficking.  These dramatic themes play alongside popular broad comedies, sci-fi, action and more.

“Sunscreen has become a widely recognized festival around the world.  I travel to festivals all over the world every year and I can see it growing to have an impact like those fests.  It’s really put the St. Pete, Clearwater, Tampa area on the film world map.  The film commission is thrilled to be the headline sponsor and looking forward to the next 14 years” Said Tony Armer, St. Petersburg Clearwater Film Commissioner.

Other notable films include 3 features that were filmed in Pinellas County;  Epiphany, Hot Mess in a Wedding Dress and Home of the Brave.  Two edgy provocative films from the Slamdance Film Festival, Happy Face and Lost Holiday, and Dizzy Pursuit which is produced by the Russo Brothers who are most well-known for Directing several Marvel superhero films.
