2009 Sunscreen Film Festival
Sunscreen Film Festival Horrorfest

Sunscreen Film Festival Horrorfest brought talent and horror to St. Pete

October 23rd to the 25th was a jam-packed one for the 200 plus attendees at the Sunscreen Film Festival’s Horrorfest.

Actors seeking to improve their craft descended on Studio 620 for a two day actor’s workshop featuring Twilight’s Casting Director Lana Veenker and veteran acting coach Marc Durso. The bonus for these up and comers was that Venker was not just there to teach the basics of breaking into the biz, but she is actively casting “Leverage” starring Timothy Hutton.

Flocking to Baywalk Muvico were indie film fans, coming to see the ‘best and darkest’ horror films now making the circuit. This included a rare screening of “Trick R Treat” starring Anna Panquin. Critics have praised this Warner Brother’s film as the “best damn horror movie in years” and “the holy grail of Halloween themed horror films.” The other films screened: Sauna, Immortal Island, Live Evil and Evil Things were all independent films.

Both Immortal Island and Live Evil are notable for their local connections, (Immortal Island was filmed in Pinellas County and Live Evil was directed by St. Pete Filmmaker Mark Terry).
